Why High Quality Painting

Paint More & Spend Less

How do you transform your home yet save money? Repairs & Paints has the answer. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get quality paint and a quality finish. Per-gallon paint prices range from less than $15 to more than $35 and up.

When purchasing paints for your home consider the type of paint — alkyd oil paint or water-based latex. Alkyd oil-based paints are more durable and can provide a slightly smoother coat, but they are also more difficult to work with, clean up, and some states restrict the areas in which alkyd paints can be used completely. On the flip-side, latex paints are super durable and easy to work with, and can be cleaned up with water.House Painting South Jersey

There are some things to consider when choosing between a cheaper grade of paint versus a much more expensive grade. Consider the amount of work it takes to apply the paint. The higher grades of paint contain titanium, which gives the paint more coverage so it does a better job of concealing the surface it covers. Cheaper paints contain little or no titanium, relying instead on clay. As a result, it may take three or more coats of cheap paint to equal the coverage of one coat of high-quality more expensive paint.

When applied by paintbrush, cheaper paints show brush marks and provide poor coverage. Higher-quality paints provide smooth, one-coat coverage.

Another important difference between the two is durability. Expensive paints are usually more washable and offer greater scrub resistance. If you try washing dirt off a cheaper paint, you’re likely to wash off some of the paint itself.

Another benefit of higher-quality paints is their reduced tendency to spatter. They contain an anti-spattering agent that produces less mess than inferior paints.

Your Painting Decision

When purchasing paint always keep in mind what you hope to get out of it. Consider other paints outside of the more expensive brands you love, don’t forget about VOC’s, chemicals that paint can release into the air, and think about the end product and durability this particular purchase can offer.

If you keep these things in mind, your house will thank you for it.
